Privacy

Last updated 21 July 2026

Wanderoon is anonymous by design.

There is no username, no profile anyone else can see, and no way for one person to look another up. Your account is an anonymous identifier created on this device.

What is attached to a balloon

The message you write, the colour and typeface you choose, and the country and nearest large city it launched from. Nothing that identifies you is attached to it. Your name appears only if you explicitly sign that particular balloon.

Location

Wanderoon needs a rough idea of where you are so it can show balloons within reach. Your coordinates are rounded on this device — to roughly 11 kilometres — before they are ever sent. The server then discards even that, keeping only a country and the nearest of a few hundred large cities. "Near Lisbon" can mean anywhere in a wide radius, which is the point. Your precise location is never transmitted and never stored.

What we never collect

No photographs, no voice, no contacts, no advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics or trackers. Wanderoon has no advertising and does not sell data to anyone.

Moderation

Messages and replies are checked automatically before they are published, to keep the app free of abuse and to catch messages from someone in crisis. This check is performed by OpenAI's moderation service and the text is not used to train any model. A record of the decision is kept so that repeated abuse can be acted on.

Notifications

If you allow them, a device token is stored so we can tell you when your balloon is held, when someone writes back, and when it comes home. You can turn these off in your device settings at any time.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from the profile screen. Your profile, your device tokens and the link between you and anything you have written are erased. Balloons already in the sky keep flying anonymously, and replies strangers wrote stay with the person who received them — they were a gift to someone else, and they are no longer tied to you.

Children

Wanderoon is not intended for children under 13.
